From water targets to real local impact

More and more companies have committed to replenishing, balancing or offsetting their water use. At the same time, physical water risks are increasing around the world as a result of economic development, urbanisation and climate change.

But a corporate water target does not automatically tell you where the greatest local need lies.

The causes of water insecurity vary significantly by region and watershed. In some places, water is abundant, but access to safe drinking water and sanitation is limited. Elsewhere, drought, flooding, pollution or inefficient agricultural water use are the main challenges.

That is why effective water stewardship should not start with a standard solution, but with a more fundamental question: what problem are we actually trying to solve here and what is causing it?

What will we discuss?

In this webinar, we will explore how organisations can build their water stewardship efforts around local context, thorough analysis and targeted interventions.

We will discuss:

  • how to identify water security risks and their underlying causes;
  • how robust analysis can lead to practical mitigation pathways;
  • how technology can support more efficient irrigation;
  • how collaboration between companies, solution providers, funders and other stakeholders can increase impact;
  • how to align corporate reporting requirements and local water needs;
  • how to apply WASH and agricultural water use as key interventions worldwide.

Drawing on the expertise of Ceryle, Terramira, Botanical Water and Aqua4D, we will show how analysis and practical solutions can work together. We will also explore how the SWIM platform can help organisations bring the right partners together for collective action.

Why this matters

A water programme that fails to account for the local context risks delivering limited real-world impact and may even be perceived as blue-washing.

By first understanding the actual water challenges and their root causes, companies can allocate resources more effectively. This can strengthen the resilience and continuity of businesses while also improving water security for local communities and ecosystems that depend on the same watershed.
